Profile of Speaker/Author

Mr. Conway heads the Life Sciences Practice for Kaufman & Company. Prior to this position, he was Group Head of Biotechnology for the Boston-based investment bank, Adams, Harkness & Hill, where he completed middle market merger and acquisition transactions worth over $1 billion. Mr. Conway.s experience includes positions with Abbott Laboratories and Bain & Company. In addition, he has been involved in two biotech startups, one of which, Gamera Bioscience, he co-founded. Mr. Conway received his MBA, with honors, from the Harvard Business School.

Abstract of Presentation/Publication

In addition to utilizing various forms of direct financing, biotechnology companies can accelerate their growth and increase their value through different types of partnering efforts as well as through mergers and acquisitions. The latter types of transactions also serve as potential exit strategies for investors in biotech enterprises. In contemplating any type of business development transaction biotech companies should develop a specific strategy. A number of factors need to be considered as well as the general financing environment surrounding the transaction. These strategic issues will be discussed in further detail.
