Early stage financing is a very important resource for
entrepreneurs interested in launching biotechnology
enterprises. In Maryland, there has been a significant
effort to make this type of funding available through
several different programs directed by the Maryland Venture
Fund. These programs and other venture capital related
activities and resources provided through state sponsorship
will be discussed in this session. In the past year the
success of the Maryland Venture Fund has been recognized;
the Fund has received awards from both the Greater
Washington Technology Council and the Greater Baltimore
Technology Council for its contributions to the economic
development of the region.s technology community.
